Hi, I'm Spencer Brod!
Growing up in New York City, my room was decorated in Orange. I played recreational basketball as early as 4, and would beg my parents to take me to Knicks games. As early as Pre-K, I'd talk to my teacher about Carmelo Anthony.
I then played for three years on my middle school's team. I wasn't a consistent starter, but I nailed 3-pointers whenever I came off the bench. But when I didn't make my high school's junior varsity team, I had to find a different path.
That path came in the form of media. After spending my first year as a manager for the JV team, I broadcast games during my junior and senior years. At the same time, I also wrote for Sports Illustrated Kids, honing my writing skills about topics such as baseball.
Ever since high school, I've been fascinated by the power of storytelling and love giving people the recognition they deserve. As a beat writer for the Daily Orange, I've developed a strong voice with an emphasis on hard-hitting, punchy sentences.
This summer, I'll be interning as a sports reporter with the New York Post. It sounds a little cliché, but the job is truly a dream come true. Every Saturday morning growing up, I'd rip the sports section off the Post and read it in my room. Now, I can be in the place I aspired to be.
